Dear Parent,
Your child worked on following VT Grade Level Expectations:

A1-2:10 Students show skill development when CREATING art by using line in various media (e.g., pencil, marker collage, etc.) to create shape and image.
A1-2:12 Students show understanding of visual arts CONCEPTS and VOCABULARY by identifying and using basic elements of design (e.g., line, shape, primary and secondary colors); and by naming and using genres like portrait, and landscape).
A1-2:15 Students critique and revise art by making affirming statements (e.g., I noticed, I saw, I like…) noticed secondary colors in butterfly.
A1-2:19 Students approach artistic problem solving with an open mind and creative thinking by responding to teacher suggested solutions (e.g., Try mixing yellow and blue).

Projects: Sketching and drawing sunflowers in the backyard; enlarge sketches for a 12x18” painting that is finished with tempera paint; mixing of primary colors to secondary colors; book project “Butterfly Alphabet” by Kjell B. Sandreel and creating beautiful butterfly paintings, cutting and pasting them on background; tracing fall leaves, using crayon and water-resist watercolors; book project “Dappled Apples”, by Jan Carr and Dorothy Donahue with collages beginning with apple orchard to pumpkins to Halloween.

. Roosters, Chicken, and Eggs

Students watched eggs in their classroom hatch. We used Mona Brooks method of “Drawing with Children” and started with the dot as the pupil of the eye, circle, etc. etc. until all children had a wonderful rooster on the page. Later, they added objects to create a story. We used outliner, Slip-Sticks, and watercolors.
